Run Flagstaff is the result of "kismet", as people of like minds converged in Flagstaff at the same time. Flagstaff has always been known as a high altitude training destination. Many people come from all over the country to live, work, and train in this beautiful mountain town.
In 2006, however, a core group of accomplished post-collegiate athletes began to assemble. All of them had different reasons for coming to town. Some were graduate students, while others needed a change of scenery. Some were former college teammates, while others were strangers. Many had believed they would never find the same "team-unity" as they had in college. Nevertheless, these people began training together, discussing their individual and collective goals, and a team was formed.
With the support of Mizuno USA providing equipment, Run Flagstaff finished an impressive 4th place at the 2006 USATF Club Cross-Country National Championship in San Francisco, CA. Run Flagstaff finished 5th at this venue in 2007 and 7th in 2008. Recenly, members have been running faster than they ever have before, winning races and competing at major events like the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. Run Flagstaff is becoming well-known throughout Arizona and in the U.S.
The athletic goals of Run Flagstaff are as diverse as the backgrounds of the athletes, thus Run Flagstaff has no official coach or leader. Instead we offer whatever assistance we can to each other in training and outside of training. We believe that the simplest avenue to success comes from a continuation of current training philosophies applied under the best training enivironment that Run Flagstaff, and Flagstaff Community can offer.
