Diadora Cellula 2

Diadora Cellula 2

Diadora Cellula 2
This week we are going to dive into the Diadora Cellula 2.

Diadora is likely one of the most underrated brands on the shoe wall right now, and for most, their trainers fly under the radar. Those who have been in the shop this summer may have popped into the Diadora pop-up shop, but may have skipped out on trying on any of their footwear.

I am here to say that if you have to try on one shoe, I would definitely try the Cellula.

When I first put on the Cellula 2, I was immediately transported back to my days of High School and College running. The shoe feels incredibly sturdy, yet bouncy and forgiving. If you read my reviews frequently, you’ll find that I am growing tired of overengineered shoes and foams that are trying to do too much. The Cellula strikes a balance between great tech, and a solid feel that isn’t overwhelming.

The step-in feel is great, and strikes that balance of firmness and bounce that is hard to find in today’s market. The heel lockdown is solid, and the upper has ample space for my ungodly high instep. However, for me, the toe box is a little shallow and a tad bit narrow. The engineered mesh upper looks great, and I believe it will be durable over the long-term, but I would prefer just a bit more overall volume. That being said, It may break in, and for those who don’t have as high a volume foot as mine, it could be a solid choice.

The midsole is really where this shoe shines. Whether you’re looking for all-day comfort for standing, or a solid shoe for recovery and longer efforts, the Cellula 2’s midsole provides a comfort and ride that steps into the ring and holds its own against formidable rivals such as the New Balance 1080, Nike Vomero, and Brooks Glycerin. It has a smooth heel-to-toe transition that doesn’t feel like it is kicking my foot one way or the other as I go through my gait. I also appreciate that it doesn’t feel super bulky compared to other high-cushioned trainers.

Overall, the Cellula 2 is a shoe that I think can get buried in all the options on the shoe wall, but deserves some attention. For a brand that is on the rise, and that many haven't heard of, the Cellula 2 holds its weight and in some cases, punches above its weight class. When it's time to replace your trainers, give Diadora a chance, you may be surprised by what these Italian giants have to offer.
